#2 of 9 hotels in West End & Haymarket by Axel's take. West End & Haymarket is #4 of 7 places to stay in Edinburgh. The best hotels in West End & Haymarket, ranked · Where to stay in Edinburgh

Axel's take: 8.8/10

A strong townhouse choice for character, comfort and quiet, with a few practical compromises. a five-star boutique townhouse hotel in Edinburgh’s quiet West End, scored for what it is.

The Bonham is a five-star boutique townhouse hotel that makes a strong case for staying in Edinburgh’s quieter West End. We’d pick it for its historic interiors, comfortable beds and personal scale rather than big-hotel bustle. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise welcoming staff, spotless rooms and restful surroundings; Booking.com’s strong cleanliness and comfort scores reinforce that picture. Princes Street and Dean Village are an easy walk away.

Choose your room carefully: the hotel explicitly says sizes and views vary, and some guests find the smaller rooms underwhelming for the price. Breakfast earns plenty of praise, but several Tripadvisor reviewers question its cost. Parking is paid and cannot be reserved, while No.35 serves à la carte dinner only Thursday through Saturday. We’d skip it if you want the Old Town on your doorstep or dependable restaurant dining every evening.

  • Best for: couples seeking a quieter city break; travelers who prefer historic boutique hotels; walkers exploring the West End and Dean Village

  • Watch out for: room sizes and views vary; paid, non-reservable parking; limited restaurant dinner nights

  • Location: Peaceful West End setting near Princes Street and Dean Village, rather than in the Old Town.

  • Rooms: Characterful interiors and well-reviewed beds; confirm the size and outlook of your chosen category.

  • Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com scores and recent Expedia feedback.

  • Service: Warm, helpful staff dominate recent feedback, though occasional lapses appear on Tripadvisor.

  • Amenities: Bar, lounges and No.35 restaurant; à la carte dinner currently runs Thursday–Saturday.

  • Fees and surprises: Parking costs extra and cannot be reserved; check breakfast inclusion before booking.
