#2 of 4 hotels in Leith by Axel's take. Leith is #5 of 7 places to stay in Edinburgh. The best hotels in Leith, ranked · Where to stay in Edinburgh

Axel's take: 9.3/10

A characterful floating hotel whose service and comfort live up to the setting. a boutique floating hotel on Leith’s waterfront, scored for what it is.

Ocean Mist is a boutique hotel aboard a restored historic ship, not a conventional budget two-star. It’s an exceptional pick for couples who want character without sacrificing comfort. Recent Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the welcoming staff, immaculate interiors and comfortable beds. Polished wood, individually designed cabins and the waterfront bar give it substance beyond the novelty, while Leith’s restaurants and nearby trams make the location practical.

Choose your cabin carefully: some are snug, and lower-deck rooms can offer little daylight. Breakfast is continental rather than cooked, with lounge-style seating that doesn’t suit everyone. There’s no lift, so discuss access before booking; parking is limited and charged. We’d skip it if spacious, bright rooms or walking straight into Edinburgh’s main sights matter more than maritime character.

  • Best for: couples seeking a distinctive stay; maritime-history enthusiasts; Leith dining weekends

  • Watch out for: compact cabins and limited daylight in some rooms; no lift; confirm access requirements; continental breakfast with lounge-style seating

  • Location: On Leith’s Shore, close to restaurants and trams rather than the Old Town sights.

  • Rooms: Individually styled cabins with well-reviewed beds; space and daylight vary substantially.

  • Cleanliness: Consistently outstanding feedback across Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia.

  • Service: Warm, helpful staff are a recurring highlight; reception is staffed around the clock.

  • Amenities: Waterfront bar, included continental breakfast, free Wi-Fi and air conditioning.

  • Fees and surprises: Limited parking costs extra; no lift, and breakfast is not a cooked Scottish spread.
