#9 of 9 hotels in West End & Haymarket by Axel's take. West End & Haymarket is #4 of 7 places to stay in Edinburgh. The best hotels in West End & Haymarket, ranked · Where to stay in Edinburgh
Axel's take: 7.7/10
A convenient Edinburgh base, with comfortable beds but uneven four-star polish. A practical 4-star chain hotel near Haymarket station, scored for what it is.
Leonardo Hotel Edinburgh Haymarket is a practical 4-star chain hotel: a good base for exploring Edinburgh, rather than a reason to stay in itself. Haymarket’s trains and airport trams are a short walk away, and the EICC is close by. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise comfortable beds, generously sized rooms, helpful staff and the varied breakfast. We'd pick it for transport convenience and straightforward comfort.
The reservation is condition, not location. Recent reviews across both sites describe tired furniture, patchy paintwork and troublesome showers alongside plenty of clean, comfortable stays. Housekeeping also gets mixed feedback, although overall cleanliness ratings remain reassuring. Expect a walk or tram ride to the main Old Town sights, and paid, first-come parking. We'd skip it if you want consistently polished four-star surroundings or the Royal Mile on your doorstep.
-
Best for: City breaks using trains and airport trams; EICC conference visitors; Families wanting larger rooms
-
Watch out for: Uneven room and bathroom upkeep; Occasional housekeeping inconsistencies; Limited paid parking without reservations

-
Rooms: Space and beds earn praise, but dated finishes and shower problems recur in recent reviews.
-
Cleanliness: Generally positive overall ratings, with some recent housekeeping lapses rather than uniformly poor standards.
-
Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a recurring strength; follow-through is less consistent.
-
Amenities: Restaurant, bar, buffet breakfast, free Wi-Fi and air conditioning; breakfast selection draws praise.
-
Fees and surprises: Breakfast may cost extra; parking is charged and unreservable. The hotel says displayed rates include the applicable Edinburgh tourist tax.
