Axel's take on Old North & Tel Aviv Port: #7 of 8 in Tel Aviv, 6.0/10
Choose residential streets near the beach, not a room above port entertainment. Residential character and useful beach access appeal, but a very limited hotel selection, poor value and fewer nearby options keep the Old North seventh.
Choose the Old North for residential streets around Nordau and Yirmiyahu, easy beach routines and walks or bike rides toward the Yarkon. The port adds a broad waterfront deck and places to eat, but the streets behind it feel more like a lived-in neighborhood than a visitor strip. The municipality's neighborhood guide specifically highlights its appeal to young families.
The distinction matters: staying beside port entertainment is not the same proposition as choosing a quieter side street. This is our strongest family-and-outdoors base, not the best launchpad for southern nightlife or repeated Jaffa visits. Skip it if Rothschild and the southern markets dominate your plans.
- Best for: families, sports fans
- Skip it if: Most of your plans are in southern Tel Aviv; You want historic lanes outside your door
- Getting around: Buses 5/172 serve Dizengoff; walk to beaches and the port, cycle toward the Yarkon; from TLV, train to Savidor then bus/taxi.
- After dark: Expect port-side dining and entertainment, with a more residential atmosphere on streets away from those venues.
- Rates: Typical Axel rate $735 a night

- Hilton Tel Aviv 8.0/10, large, traditional five-star beachfront hotel in Independence Park. Strong for sea views and beach days, less convincing for faultless five-star service.
