Axel's take on Hollywood Beach: #7 of 9 in Fort Lauderdale, 5.2/10
The strongest choice for a beach holiday built around walking. The Broadwalk supplies character, nearby activity and strong hotels, but poor access to central Fort Lauderdale keeps it seventh.
Hollywood Beach's big advantage is the Broadwalk: a long, pedestrian beachfront where cafés, cycling, beach access and people-watching share the same route. Around Johnson Street, the bandshell and nearby restaurants create a natural evening gathering place. Families can build an easy routine here without repeatedly crossing A1A between their accommodation and the sand.
It is its own beach destination, not downtown Fort Lauderdale with a different postcode. Expect a separate journey for Las Olas, museums and most conventions. Central Broadwalk addresses trade quiet for convenience; head away from Johnson Street if you would rather hear less entertainment outside your window. Skip it if your plans are mainly farther north.
- Best for: families, travelers without a car
- Skip it if: Your schedule revolves around central Fort Lauderdale; You need silence beside the main entertainment area
- Getting around: Walk or cycle the Broadwalk; BCT 4 serves A1A and connects with the airport Tri-Rail station. From FLL, use a taxi or airport shuttle then 4; from MIA, use Tri-Rail plus a local connection or a road transfer.
- After dark: Johnson Street has live music and restaurant activity; visitors describe a quieter atmosphere farther from the bandshell.
