Axel's take on Springfield Gateway: #5 of 6 in Eugene, 5.0/10
Choose Gateway for practical access, not Eugene's most memorable surroundings. Gateway’s solid hotel selection suits practical stays, but limited sightseeing access, sparse doorstep attractions and ordinary value keep it below Eugene’s central areas.
Gateway Street and the Beltline interchange offer a practical stay built around highway access, familiar restaurants and shopping at The Shoppes at Gateway. This suits regional work trips, RiverBend-related visits and travelers who will spend most days driving elsewhere. Families have straightforward dining choices without needing to make downtown Eugene part of every evening.
The compromise is the setting: commercial roads and separated destinations rather than a compact visitor district. Springfield's historic Main Street is a different outing, not what surrounds Gateway lodging. Route 12 helps if you leave the car behind, but check the walk to your stop; Gateway Station's EmX platforms are not beside every address. Skip it for a first visit centered on wandering Eugene.
- Best for: travelers on a budget, business trips and conventions
- Skip it if: You want independent shops and nightlife on foot; You are planning a car-free sightseeing trip
- Getting around: Route 12 runs on Gateway Street toward downtown Eugene; EmX serves Gateway Station and RiverBend via Springfield. Shopping is walkable from some addresses; from EUG, use a taxi/rideshare.
- After dark: Expect restaurant-and-pub evenings rather than a concentrated nightlife scene, with highway exposure worth checking before booking.
- Rates: Typical Axel rate $167 a night

How to choose
- Choose La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Springfield if you're stopping on a family road trip and want praised breakfast, friendly staff and free parking.
- Choose Comfort Suites Springfield-Eugene if you need a spacious suite with a sitting area, plus included breakfast and an indoor pool.
- Choose Motel 6 Springfield, OR - Eugene North if a cheaper overnight with free pet stays matters most; accept uneven rooms and no breakfast.
What paying more buys
Compared with cheaper Motel 6, Comfort Suites buys spacious suites, included hot breakfast and an indoor pool and hot tub. Pricier Hilton Garden Inn adds refreshed rooms, a restaurant and EV charging, but parking and breakfast cost extra. Its premium is less compelling for families already well served by Comfort Suites. Typical rates with Axel here run from $95 a night at Motel 6 Springfield, OR - Eugene North to $210 at Hilton Garden Inn Eugene/Springfield (last 30 days).
