Axel's take: 7.6/10

Convenient for Adventureland, but upkeep and breakfast consistency hold it back. a budget-friendly, limited-service hotel across from Adventureland, scored for what it is.

This budget-friendly, limited-service hotel in Altoona is a good practical pick for Adventureland visits or an Interstate 80 stopover. Its strongest selling points are the location, included hot breakfast and free guest parking. Recent Expedia and Booking.com guests often praise friendly reception staff, comfortable beds and clean rooms. An indoor pool, fitness room, and in-room microwaves and refrigerators round out the useful basics.

We’d choose it for convenience rather than a consistently polished stay. Reviews across sites describe recurring maintenance niggles, uneven housekeeping details and breakfast that sometimes runs short or disappoints. Air-conditioning performance also draws repeated complaints. Parking rules are strict: get the required pass and clarify arrangements for extra vehicles. Skip it if dependable room condition and a reliably good breakfast matter more than being close to the park.

  • Best for: families visiting Adventureland; Interstate 80 stopovers; budget-conscious travelers with a car

  • Watch out for: uneven maintenance and housekeeping; inconsistent breakfast replenishment; strict parking-pass rules

  • Location: Across from Adventureland, with convenient access to I-80, shopping and dining; not downtown Des Moines.

  • Rooms: Comfortable beds and some updated furnishings, but recurring fixture and air-conditioning complaints.

  • Cleanliness: Generally positive feedback, tempered by repeated missed cleaning details and stained-linen reports.

  • Service: Front-desk friendliness earns frequent praise, though complaint handling is less consistent.

  • Amenities: Included hot breakfast, indoor heated pool, fitness room, Wi-Fi, microwaves and refrigerators.

  • Fees and surprises: Guest parking is free but requires a pass; confirm extra-vehicle rules and the incidental deposit.
