#2 of 2 hotels in East Village by Axel's take. East Village is #2 of 5 places to stay in Des Moines. The best hotels in East Village, ranked · Where to stay in Des Moines

Axel's take: 8.5/10

A strong East Village base, especially if restaurants and nightlife matter more than silence. a contemporary 3-star hotel in the walkable East Village, scored for what it is.

This contemporary 3-star gets the important things right: clean, comfortable rooms, a walkable East Village address and a rooftop restaurant worth factoring into your plans. Expedia and Booking.com guests repeatedly praise cleanliness and helpful staff, while Tripadvisor reviewers highlight the nearby shops, restaurants and bars. The Republic on Grand, with its sixth-floor indoor-outdoor lounge, gives it more personality than a routine business hotel. It’s a strong pick for a city weekend or short work trip.

The trade-off is that a lively location is not always a quiet one: some guests report late-night music and traffic noise. Parking and breakfast cost extra, and recent breakfast feedback is uneven. Marriott also lists housekeeping every other day. We’d choose it for exploring on foot, but look elsewhere if silence and an included breakfast are priorities.

  • Best for: couples exploring the East Village; concertgoers and nightlife travelers; short business trips

  • Watch out for: possible late-night music and traffic noise; parking and breakfast cost extra; housekeeping every other day

  • Location: Walkable access to East Village dining, shops and Wooly’s; convenient for the Capitol.

  • Rooms: Modern, minimalist rooms earn strong comfort feedback; noise exposure varies.

  • Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Expedia and Booking.com guest feedback.

  • Service: Generally friendly and helpful, though some recent guests describe breakfast staffing shortcomings.

  • Amenities: Sixth-floor restaurant and lounge, fitness center, and complimentary airport shuttle on request.

  • Fees and surprises: On-site parking and breakfast are additional; nearby public parking offers an alternative.
