Axel's take: 8.7/10

Historic character, excellent breakfast and a proper rooftop pool, with some luxury-level compromises. A design-led five-star in a former post office beside Copenhagen Central Station, scored for what it is.

Villa Copenhagen is a design-led five-star in the former central post office, beside Central Station and a short walk from Tivoli. It’s a strong pick for a city break: historic architecture, contemporary interiors and a heated rooftop lap pool give it more character than a conventional business hotel. Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Hotels.com guests consistently praise breakfast, comfortable beds and cleanliness; the staff also earn strong overall feedback.

The compromises matter at this level. Standard rooms are compact, storage can be limited, and recurring reports of slow bar service suggest the polish isn’t entirely consistent. The lively courtyard suits sociable travelers better than anyone seeking hushed, old-school luxury. Older reviews mention timed pool sessions, but the hotel now advertises unlimited guest access. We’d choose it for design, breakfast and swimming—not sprawling rooms or flawless service.

• Best for: Design-conscious city breakers; Travelers arriving by train; Couples who want a pool

• Watch out for: Compact entry-level rooms and limited storage; Occasionally slow bar service; Lively courtyard atmosphere

• Location: Beside Central Station, with Tivoli and central sights within easy walking distance.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds and contemporary design; standard rooms are small for a five-star.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall feedback across booking sites and recent Tripadvisor reviews.

• Service: Staff are widely praised, though bar service attracts recurring complaints about delays.

• Amenities: Heated 25-meter rooftop pool, sauna, 24-hour gym and RUG bakery; no full-service spa.

• Fees and surprises: Check whether breakfast is included; parking costs extra, while pool and sauna access are now unlimited for staying guests.
