Axel's take: 8.8/10

A welcoming Copenhagen base, with standout staff but no air conditioning. a historic 4-star boutique hotel beside Copenhagen’s lakes, scored for what it is.

Hotel Kong Arthur is a historic 4-star boutique hotel beside Copenhagen’s lakes, and a strong pick for a city break with character. Recent Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Hotels.com guests consistently praise the welcoming staff, cleanliness and Nordic breakfast. Nørreport and Torvehallerne food market are an easy walk away, while comfortable lounges, courtyards and the complimentary evening Cozy Hour make this more sociable than a standard sightseeing base.

The main compromise is sleep comfort in warmer weather: there’s no air conditioning, and opening windows can bring street noise. Room sizes vary, so check the category carefully. Breakfast depends on your booking, and Ni’mat Spa access generally costs extra. One recent Booking.com guest also reported nearby building work and roadworks; check whether these remain active. We’d skip it if reliable cooling or step-free access throughout is essential.

Best for: couples on a Copenhagen city break; sightseers exploring on foot or by metro; travelers who enjoy sociable hotel lounges
Watch out for: No air conditioning; street and neighboring-room noise; Breakfast and spa access not automatically included; Some rooms require stairs
Location: Beside the lakes, within easy walking distance of Nørreport, Torvehallerne and central sights.
Rooms: Comfortable beds and varied layouts; smaller categories can feel tight, and fans replace air conditioning.
Cleanliness: A consistent strength across recent guest feedback and major-site category ratings.
Service: Friendly, helpful staff receive particularly consistent praise across several sites.
Amenities: Courtyards, a 24-hour lobby bar, complimentary Cozy Hour, fitness facilities, bike rental and Ni’mat Spa.
Fees and surprises: Parking costs extra; breakfast and spa inclusions vary. A recent guest reported nearby roadworks and building work, with current status unconfirmed.
