Axel's take: 8.2/10

A strong central pick for Danish design fans, with compact rooms and some street noise. a design-focused 4-star boutique hotel near Copenhagen’s City Hall, scored for what it is.

Hotel Alexandra is a 4-star boutique hotel whose appeal is genuine Danish mid-century furniture rather than full-service luxury. Its 61 individually furnished rooms give it more personality than a standard city hotel, and the location makes sightseeing easy. Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff, while cleanliness earns solid marks across Expedia and Booking.com. We'd choose it for a design-minded Copenhagen break.

The compromises are space and consistency: standard doubles are only 15–16 square metres, and recent guests on multiple sites describe some tired finishes and bathrooms. Boulevard traffic and nearby events can disturb sleep despite soundproofed windows; request a courtyard-facing room if quiet matters. Breakfast in the adjoining café is generally well liked, but check whether your booking includes it. We'd skip Alexandra if you want generous rooms or uniformly polished four-star surroundings.

• Best for: Danish design enthusiasts; Couples on sightseeing breaks; Travelers prioritizing central transport links

• Watch out for: Compact standard rooms; Boulevard and event noise; Uneven bathroom condition

• Location: Near City Hall, Tivoli and metro links, with the central station within walking distance.

• Rooms: Authentic vintage furniture, air conditioning and compact standard doubles; larger deluxe rooms are available.

• Cleanliness: Generally well rated, without a broad recurring cleanliness problem in the reviewed evidence.

• Service: Helpful, welcoming front-desk staff are a consistent strength across recent reviews.

• Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, a design library, bicycle rental and complimentary evening wine; breakfast is in the adjoining café.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast may cost extra depending on your booking; nearby public parking is paid rather than included.
