Hotels in DetroitA basic budget motel near downtown and the Riverwalk
5.9/10
Helpful staff and free parking, but room upkeep makes this a gamble.
Quality Inn Detroit Downtown is a basic, exterior-corridor motel, not a polished downtown hotel. Its strongest arguments are proximity to the Riverwalk, free parking and staff whom recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise. Breakfast is included, and the complimentary local shuttle is a useful perk—but Choice currently limits it to Friday and Saturday evenings. It can work for a short event trip if convenience matters more than room condition.
The trade-off is inconsistent upkeep, even by budget standards. Recent guests describe both clean, comfortable rooms and recurring cigarette or musty smells, missed cleaning and broken fixtures. Booking.com’s 5.8/10 and Expedia’s 6.4/10 reinforce that mixed picture. We'd skip it if dependable cleanliness or a fresh-feeling room is essential; friendly service does not fully offset unreliable basics.

Helpful staff and free parking, but room upkeep makes this a gamble. A basic budget motel near downtown and the Riverwalk, scored for what it is.
Best for: Budget-minded event visitors; Drivers wanting included parking
Watch out for: Uneven cleaning and maintenance; Smoke or musty odors despite nonsmoking policy; No elevator; limited shuttle schedule
Location: Near the Riverwalk and within walking distance of downtown attractions.
Rooms: Exterior-corridor rooms include fridges and microwaves; wear and faulty fixtures recur in reviews.
Cleanliness: Many guests report clean rooms, but repeated cleaning misses and odors make consistency a concern.
Service: Friendly, helpful staff and the shuttle driver attract repeated praise across review sites.
Amenities: Included continental breakfast, Wi-Fi and the on-site Clique diner; Choice also lists an exercise room.
Fees and surprises: Registered guests park free; the three-mile shuttle runs Friday–Saturday, 4 p.m.–midnight; no elevator.
