Stay for the harbor views and pools, not consistently polished rooms. An older waterfront resort hotel in Mount Pleasant, scored for what it is.
Harborside is the older, more modest hotel at Charleston Harbor Resort, distinct from the neighboring Beach Club. It's a good pick for families and couples who prioritize pools, marina views and downtime over downtown walkability. Recent Expedia guests repeatedly praise helpful staff, clean rooms and the downtown shuttle; the waterfront setting is the strongest reason to choose it.
The catch is uneven room condition. Tripadvisor guests describe recurring maintenance and housekeeping shortcomings, while even a satisfied recent Expedia guest calls the hotel outdated. Expect a resort fee, breakfast charges and transport into Charleston rather than sights outside your door. The private beach is for lounging, not swimming. New owners announced in September 2026 that they would explore a comprehensive renovation, not that one was complete. We'd skip it for a polished luxury stay or a swimming-beach vacation.
Best for: Families who prioritize pools; Couples seeking harbor views; Travelers mixing resort downtime with Charleston visits
Watch out for: Dated rooms and uneven maintenance; Resort fee and breakfast charges; No swimming off the private beach
Location: Waterfront at Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant; downtown Charleston requires transport, with a hotel shuttle available.
Rooms: Nautical styling and harbor-view options; recurring reports of worn finishes and maintenance problems.
Cleanliness: Recent Expedia feedback is largely positive, but Tripadvisor reports show housekeeping is not consistently reliable.
Service: Many recent guests praise helpful staff; complaint handling receives more mixed feedback.
Amenities: Resort pools, dining, spa and fitness facilities; Harborside's own pool is seasonal.
Fees and surprises: Mandatory resort fee; breakfast costs extra; September 2026 buyers are considering renovation, with no completion established.
