Hotels in Charlestona budget, motel-style 2-star in West Ashley
6.8/10
Useful budget basics, but uneven upkeep makes this a cautious pick.
Best Western Charleston Inn is a budget, motel-style 2-star in West Ashley, better suited to drivers than a car-free Charleston weekend. Free parking, included breakfast and rooms with microwaves and refrigerators make it practical. Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise friendly staff and comfortable beds, and plenty report clean rooms. We'd consider it for a short, budget-minded stop, but it isn't a consistently dependable bargain.
The drawbacks go beyond dated decor: recent reviews across sites describe musty smells, bathroom mildew, patchy cleaning and maintenance problems, with repeated insect reports. The advertised outdoor pool drew closure complaints in June and July 2026; an August review also mentions construction, so confirm both before booking. There's no elevator or gym. We'd skip it if reliable room condition, guaranteed swimming or walking straight into the historic district matters most.

Best for: budget-minded travelers with a car; short road-trip stops
Watch out for: uneven cleaning and room maintenance; confirm pool access and construction status; no elevator
Location: West Ashley on busy Savannah Highway; a driving base rather than a historic-district walking base.
Rooms: Useful microwaves and refrigerators; comfortable beds earn praise, but dated fittings and maintenance complaints recur.
Cleanliness: Many clean-room reports, countered by recurring complaints about mildew, mustiness, dirty surfaces and insects.
Service: Friendly staff are a recurring strength, though complaint handling and housekeeping availability receive mixed feedback.
Amenities: Breakfast, parking and Wi-Fi included; outdoor pool advertised, but recent closures warrant checking; no gym.
Fees and surprises: Pet fees apply and cats require prior approval; request ground-floor access if needed and confirm any ongoing works.
