Axel's take: 8.4/10

A strong Old Town base with helpful staff, but nightlife can disturb sleep. A 4-star boutique hotel in Cartagena’s lively walled city, scored for what it is.

Santa Catalina is a 4-star boutique hotel near the Clock Tower, and a strong pick for exploring Cartagena on foot. Booking.com and Expedia ratings are consistently positive, with guests repeatedly praising helpful staff, comfortable beds and clean rooms. The rooftop pool and bar give it an appealing place to cool off between outings, while breakfast at Gran Inka adds convenience. We'd choose it for a city-focused stay rather than a resort-style escape.

The biggest compromise is noise: recent guests repeatedly mention nearby bars and clubs, although some find it manageable. The rooftop deck is compact, and breakfast earns less consistent praise than the hotel staff. Ask about the quietest available room, but don't count on silence. We'd skip it if uninterrupted sleep or spacious poolside lounging is central to the trip.

• Best for: Couples exploring the walled city; Travelers who enjoy nightlife; Sightseeing-focused short stays

• Watch out for: Nearby nightlife audible in some rooms; Compact rooftop pool deck; Mixed breakfast feedback

• Location: Central walled-city setting near the Clock Tower, restaurants and Getsemaní.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds and generally well-liked rooms; nighttime noise varies by room.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall cleanliness feedback across Booking.com, Expedia and Tripadvisor.

• Service: Friendly, helpful hotel staff are one of the most consistent strengths.

• Amenities: Rooftop pool and bar, Gran Inka restaurant, included breakfast and free Wi-Fi.

• Fees and surprises: No on-site parking; airport transfers and pets carry extra charges.
