#8 of 9 hotels in Bocagrande & El Laguito by Axel's take. Bocagrande & El Laguito is #4 of 6 places to stay in Cartagena. The best hotels in Bocagrande & El Laguito, ranked · Where to stay in Cartagena

Axel's take: 6.7/10

Convenient for beach days, but tired rooms weaken the all-inclusive appeal. a basic 3-star all-inclusive near Bocagrande beach, scored for what it is.

Dorado Plaza is a basic 3-star all-inclusive near Bocagrande’s public beach, better for straightforward family fun than resort-style comfort. Its strongest assets are the location near shops and restaurants, outdoor pool, and organized entertainment. Guests often praise individual staff members, though service is not consistently warm. We’d consider it for travelers who prioritize beach access and included meals over polished surroundings.

The trade-offs are substantial: Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly describe aging facilities and limited buffet variety, with some reporting damp-smelling rooms and unreliable air-conditioning. Cleanliness feedback is mixed rather than uniformly poor. Google’s strong overall rating contrasts with much weaker Booking.com and Expedia scores. We’d skip it if dependable room condition or varied dining matters most, and check that your booking actually includes the all-inclusive plan.

  • Best for: families who enjoy organized activities; beachgoers comfortable with basic accommodation

  • Watch out for: aging rooms and maintenance inconsistencies; limited buffet variety; not every booking includes all-inclusive benefits

  • Location: Near Bocagrande’s public beach, shops and restaurants; outside the historic walled center.

  • Rooms: Basic accommodation with recurring reports of tired bathrooms, damp odors and air-conditioning problems.

  • Cleanliness: Many guests find rooms clean, but housekeeping and bathroom feedback is inconsistent.

  • Service: Helpful staff earn praise, although reception and problem handling receive mixed reviews.

  • Amenities: Outdoor pool, sun terrace and entertainment are the main draws; dining variety disappoints some guests.

  • Fees and surprises: Breakfast-only plans also exist; early check-in and late checkout can incur extra charges.
