Axel's take: 8.3/10

Distinctive design and warm service, with nightlife noise as the main compromise. An art-filled upscale boutique hotel in lively Getsemaní, scored for what it is.

Casa Lola is an upscale boutique hotel in Getsemaní, strongest on character rather than standardized luxury. Art-filled interiors, planted courtyards and small rooftop pools make it a distinctive base for exploring Cartagena. Recent Tripadvisor, Expedia and Booking.com guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff, striking decor and walkable location; Doña Lola restaurant also earns strong feedback. It's a strong pick for travelers who want their hotel to feel part of the neighborhood.

The compromise is sleep: noise from nearby nightlife and the hotel's restaurant recurs across sites, despite some guests finding it peaceful inside. Room layouts vary, with some dark or split-level spaces and limited storage. The pools suit cooling off, not swimming lengths. We'd skip it for guaranteed quiet or consistently polished luxury; confirm the room layout and breakfast inclusion before booking.

• Best for: Couples who enjoy boutique design; Travelers exploring Cartagena on foot; Nightlife and restaurant seekers

• Watch out for: Nightlife and restaurant noise; Variable room layouts and natural light; Small rooftop pools

• Location: Central Getsemaní, near Plaza de la Trinidad and a short walk from the historic center; not beachfront.

• Rooms: Individually decorated, air-conditioned rooms; some have internal stairs, little daylight or limited storage.

• Cleanliness: Generally positive feedback, though some recent guests report dust and uneven attention to detail.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a consistent strength across review sites.

• Amenities: Small rooftop pools, Doña Lola restaurant, bars and spa treatments; prioritize atmosphere over extensive facilities.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast inclusion depends on the booking; airport transfers, nearby parking and pets carry extra charges.
