Axel's take: 8.1/10

Warm service and spacious rooms make this aging beachfront resort a qualified strong pick. an established 4-star beachfront resort and convention hotel in El Laguito, scored for what it is.

Hilton Cartagena is an established 4-star beachfront resort and convention hotel, better for a resort-style break than stepping straight into Cartagena’s historic streets. We’d pick it for spacious rooms, sea views and consistently praised staff. Booking.com and Expedia guests broadly agree on cleanliness and comfort, while breakfast earns repeated compliments. It delivers dependable comfort rather than contemporary luxury.

The trade-offs are dated interiors, taxi trips to the walled city and a public beach where vendors can interrupt the downtime. Pool renovation was reported in August and September 2026 and acknowledged by management; completion could not be confirmed, despite Hilton currently advertising all pools as open. Check exactly which pools will operate before booking. We’d skip it for sleek design, private-beach seclusion or a pool-centered family holiday without that reassurance.

• Best for: travelers wanting spacious rooms and sea views; families after confirming pool availability; conference attendees

• Watch out for: pool renovation completion unconfirmed; dated interiors; public beach vendors and taxis to the old town

• Location: Beachfront in El Laguito, roughly five kilometers from the walled city; plan on taxis for sightseeing.

• Rooms: Spacious and generally comfortable, with appealing sea-view options, but recurring comments about dated decor.

• Cleanliness: Room cleanliness is a consistent strength; recent pool-maintenance feedback is less reassuring.

• Service: Friendly, attentive staff attract strong praise across sites, despite occasional complaints about problem handling.

• Amenities: Pool complex, kids club, spa, gym and racket sports; confirm pool availability during renovation.

• Fees and surprises: Parking is free; breakfast inclusion varies, pets incur a cleaning fee, and VAT eligibility is checked at arrival.
