#7 of 9 hotels in Getsemaní by Axel's take. Getsemaní is #1 of 6 places to stay in Cartagena. The best hotels in Getsemaní, ranked · Where to stay in Cartagena

Axel's take: 8.2/10

Colonial character and a rooftop pool, with room condition the main caveat. a colonial-style 4-star boutique hotel in Getsemaní, scored for what it is.

Armería Real is a colonial-style 4-star boutique hotel in Getsemaní, a strong pick for exploring Cartagena on foot rather than spending days on the beach. Its courtyard, spacious rooms and rooftop pool give it more character than a standard chain hotel. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise the helpful staff, comfortable beds and convenient location; the rooftop bar is another recurring highlight.

The catch is uneven upkeep. Recent feedback includes damp or musty rooms, tired furnishings and occasional plumbing or air-conditioning problems, alongside plenty of clean, comfortable stays. Breakfast earns enthusiastic praise from some guests and feels ordinary to others. We'd choose it for atmosphere and sightseeing, but request a well-maintained room away from traffic. Skip it if you expect polished luxury or are especially sensitive to dampness.

  • Best for: couples exploring Cartagena on foot; travelers who prefer colonial character; sightseers wanting a rooftop pool

  • Watch out for: uneven room maintenance and occasional dampness; traffic noise in some rooms; restrictions on unregistered visitors

  • Location: Getsemaní location within walking distance of restaurants, nightlife and the historic center; not beachfront.

  • Rooms: Generally spacious and comfortable, but condition, lighting and exposure to traffic vary.

  • Cleanliness: Strong overall guest ratings, although some recent reviews report mustiness and bathroom shortcomings.

  • Service: Warm, helpful staff are a consistent strength across sites, despite occasional complaints about security staff.

  • Amenities: Outdoor rooftop pool and bar, El Reducto restaurant, spa and elevator; no on-site parking.

  • Fees and surprises: Airport transfers cost extra; recent guests report restrictions and possible extra charges for room visitors.
