Axel's take: 7.7/10

A practical airport-side choice, but not a polished five-star experience. An older five-star business hotel in Nasr City, scored for what it is.

This older five-star business hotel in Nasr City is a good fit for convention visits and airport access, rather than a sightseeing-first Cairo stay. Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise helpful staff and clean, comfortable rooms. The outdoor pool, spa and several restaurants make it practical for travelers who prefer dining on site. We'd choose it for convenience rather than contemporary luxury.

The compromises are uneven room condition and service: recent feedback includes dated fittings, plumbing problems, noisy air-conditioning and crowded breakfasts when tour groups arrive. Central sights require extra travel time. Casino availability also needs checking: Tripadvisor lists it as temporarily closed for maintenance, while Sonesta still advertises it as open. We'd skip it for a walkable sightseeing base or consistently polished five-star standards.

• Best for: Convention and business travelers; Airport-oriented short stays; Travelers wanting on-site dining

• Watch out for: Dated rooms and uneven maintenance; Tour-group breakfast crowds; Conflicting casino opening information

• Location: Convenient for the convention centre and airport; less convenient for central sightseeing.

• Rooms: Comfort and space earn praise, but dated fittings, plumbing and air-conditioning complaints recur.

• Cleanliness: Generally well rated across sites, with some housekeeping lapses rather than a dominant cleanliness problem.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a strength, though reception and problem handling can be inconsistent.

• Amenities: Outdoor pool, spa, gym and multiple restaurants; confirm casino availability directly.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast and parking may cost extra; confirm transfer inclusions and the hotel's foreign-currency payment requirement.
