Hotels in CairoA basic downtown guesthouse on the sixth floor of an older building
6.4/10
A central budget base, but cleanliness and the arrival experience are inconsistent.
Columbia is a basic downtown guesthouse rather than a conventional 3-star hotel, occupying the sixth floor of an older building. Its strongest selling point is location: Nasser metro, restaurants and Tahrir Square are within walking distance. Agoda and Trip.com guests include genuine praise for helpful staff and clean, functional rooms. We'd consider it for a short, budget-conscious stay spent mostly exploring Cairo.
The trade-offs are more than cosmetic. Reviews across several sites describe uneven cleanliness, tired bathrooms and breakfast that was advertised but not provided. Other guests report perfectly satisfactory stays, so inconsistency is the issue rather than universal neglect. The entrance has a small, easily missed sign, and basic rooms share bathrooms. Confirm your bathroom, bed setup and breakfast in writing. We'd skip it for dependable comfort or an easy arrival with heavy luggage.

Best for: independent travelers on a tight budget; short downtown sightseeing stays
Watch out for: inconsistent cleaning and bathroom condition; shared bathrooms in basic rooms; hard-to-find sixth-floor entrance
Location: Central downtown base, about five minutes' walk from Nasser metro and fifteen from Tahrir Square.
Rooms: Simple, sometimes compact rooms; both shared-bathroom and private-bathroom categories are sold.
Cleanliness: Recent feedback is divided: clean-room praise sits alongside complaints about odors, towels and bedding.
Service: Helpful staff earn praise, but some guests describe dismissive problem handling and communication difficulties.
Amenities: Listings offer Wi-Fi, air conditioning, an elevator and breakfast; guests report uneven breakfast delivery.
Fees and surprises: Confirm bathroom type and breakfast inclusion; early check-in and late checkout may incur charges.
