Axel's take: 7.4/10

A practical downtown base with helpful staff, but traffic noise compromises the appeal. a basic, older 3-star hotel beside Tahrir Square, scored for what it is.

Cleopatra is an older, straightforward 3-star whose strongest asset is its downtown location: the Egyptian Museum, Tahrir Square and Sadat metro are close by. It's a good pick for sightseeing-focused travelers who want a conventional hotel without luxury expectations. Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff and generally clean, comfortable rooms; breakfast is included and often gets favorable mentions.

The main compromise is sleep. Tripadvisor reviews repeatedly describe intrusive traffic noise, including on higher floors, while dated furnishings and occasional air-conditioning or bathroom maintenance problems also recur. This is a serviceable base, not somewhere we'd choose for polished interiors or reliable peace and quiet. Request a room away from the main road, bring earplugs, and choose elsewhere if you're a light sleeper.

• Best for: downtown sightseeing on a budget; travelers prioritizing metro access; short, activity-filled stays

• Watch out for: traffic noise even on higher floors; dated furnishings and uneven maintenance; occasional air-conditioning problems

• Location: Excellent downtown access, near the Egyptian Museum, Tahrir Square and Sadat metro.

• Rooms: Generally comfortable and reasonably spacious, but dated; soundproofing and maintenance are weak spots.

• Cleanliness: Mostly positive across Booking.com and Expedia, with occasional housekeeping or bathroom complaints.

• Service: Helpful, friendly staff are a consistent strength, despite some reports of slow problem handling.

• Amenities: Included buffet breakfast, restaurant, free Wi-Fi and 24-hour reception cover the basics.

• Fees and surprises: Expedia lists no on-site parking; early check-in and late checkout can incur fees.
