Axel's take: 7.8/10

A good-value downtown base where friendly service outweighs dated rooms. a no-frills independent 3-star overlooking Tahrir Square, scored for what it is.

City View is a no-frills independent 3-star on Tahrir Square, worth choosing for downtown sightseeing rather than polished surroundings. Recent Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the welcoming staff, clean rooms and breakfast. The Egyptian Museum and Sadat metro are close by, while square-facing balconies give the location extra appeal. It's a strong pick for travelers who want a central base and good value.

The trade-off is an older property: rooms and bathrooms lack polish, and traffic can be loud at night. Guests mention some maintenance shortcomings, although recent feedback is predominantly positive. We'd skip it if quiet sleep or modern bathrooms are priorities. Confirm your room's outlook before booking; not every room should be assumed to have the advertised square view.

• Best for: budget-conscious downtown sightseers; travelers who value helpful staff; metro-based city exploring

• Watch out for: traffic noise at night; dated rooms and bathrooms; conflicting pet and parking policies across listings

• Location: Tahrir Square setting, close to the Egyptian Museum and roughly three minutes from Sadat metro.

• Rooms: Air-conditioned rooms with private bathrooms; condition is older, and views vary by room.

• Cleanliness: Generally positive recent feedback; Booking.com scores cleanliness 8.1/10, versus Expedia's 7.8/10.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are the most consistent strength across recent Booking.com and Expedia reviews.

• Amenities: Restaurant, breakfast, terrace, free Wi-Fi and 24-hour reception; Booking.com's Wi-Fi rating is relatively weak.

• Fees and surprises: Airport transfers cost extra; confirm pet and parking arrangements directly. The supplied Hilton website belongs to Ramses Hilton, not this hotel.
