Good space and breakfast for the money, but housekeeping needs more consistency. a budget-friendly all-suite chain hotel off I-65 in Homewood, scored for what it is.

Best Western Carlton Suites is a budget-friendly all-suite hotel off I-65, better suited to a driving stopover than a downtown sightseeing base. We'd consider it for the roomy accommodations, free parking and included hot breakfast. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise comfortable beds, helpful breakfast staff and convenient nearby restaurants. Microwaves and refrigerators make the rooms practical for families, too.

The catch is consistency: alongside clean-room reports, recent guests on Expedia, Booking.com and Tripadvisor describe missed cleaning details, worn furnishings or maintenance shortcomings. It's a reasonable value pick, not a reliably polished stay. Expedia lists the indoor swimming pool as seasonally closed October 20–April 1, so confirm availability before promising the kids a swim. We'd skip it if spotless housekeeping or a guaranteed pool matters most.

• Best for: Road-trippers with a car; Families wanting extra room; Budget-conscious Birmingham visitors

• Watch out for: Uneven housekeeping and room upkeep; Listed indoor pool closure October 20–April 1; Refundable deposit at check-in

• Location: Convenient Homewood base near I-65 and restaurants; downtown visits are best made by car.

• Rooms: Spacious suites with microwaves and refrigerators; comfortable beds earn praise, but upkeep varies.

• Cleanliness: Many positive reports, offset by recurring complaints about floors, bathrooms and overlooked details.

• Service: Friendly breakfast staff stand out; front-desk and housekeeping experiences are less consistent.

• Amenities: Free hot breakfast, parking and Wi-Fi, plus a gym and an indoor pool with a listed seasonal closure.

• Fees and surprises: Refundable damage deposit required; dogs incur a fee, and early check-in can cost extra.
