A strong downtown base, but street noise and closed hot tubs weaken the appeal. a historic 3-star hotel in the heart of downtown Banff, scored for what it is.

Mount Royal is a historic 3-star on Banff Avenue, and we'd pick it for exploring town on foot rather than a quiet mountain escape. Restaurants, shops and transport are close at hand. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the comfortable beds, helpful staff and generally clean rooms. Brazen restaurant and the hotel's library add character beyond the basics.

The central address brings recurring late-night street noise, particularly in street-facing rooms; request a room away from Banff Avenue if sleep matters. Some rooms are compact, and views vary considerably. Most importantly, the hotel's website currently says both rooftop hot tubs are closed for maintenance, corroborated by October 2026 guest reviews. Parking costs extra and spaces are limited. It's still a very good town-center base, but we'd skip it for guaranteed quiet or an après-hike soak.
