SO/ Auckland is a design-led five-star hotel beside Britomart, and a strong pick for a city break rather than a hushed luxury retreat. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the comfortable rooms, welcoming staff and walkable location near restaurants, transport and the waterfront. The indoor heated pool, spa and rooftop bar give it more substance than looks alone; breakfast also earns plenty of praise.

The trade-off is consistency. Most recent feedback is positive, but service and room upkeep do not always meet five-star expectations. Tripadvisor guests mention lively weekend street noise, so light sleepers should request a quieter room. Valet parking costs extra, there is no hotel self-parking, and Expedia lists a card surcharge.
