Axel's take: 8.3/10
A strong central hostel for clean shared spaces, helpful staff and self-catering. A budget backpacker hostel in central Auckland, not a four-star hotel, scored for what it is.
Attic Backpackers is a budget hostel on the top floor of a central Auckland building, not the four-star hotel its listing might suggest. It's a strong pick for travelers who prioritize cleanliness, useful staff and cooking their own meals over room polish. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the housekeeping, while Google reviews also highlight the spacious, well-organized kitchen. The rooftop terrace and lounges give you room to socialize without spending every evening out.
The bedrooms are the compromise: simple bunks, shared bathrooms even with private rooms, and reports of stuffiness, noisy fans and street noise. Some dorm guests also miss privacy curtains and convenient bedside storage or charging. Towels cost extra. We'd choose it for a practical, sociable city base; light sleepers and anyone expecting hotel-style privacy should look elsewhere.
