Axel's take: 8.8/10

A strong Epsom base for clean rooms, helpful hosts and practical self-catering. A comfortable, self-catering motel in Epsom, scored for what it is.

Cornwall Park Motor Inn is a comfortable, self-catering motel, not a full-service four-star hotel. It's a strong pick for an Epsom stay: Expedia and Booking.com guests repeatedly praise clean, spacious rooms, comfortable beds and helpful hosts, while a recent Tripadvisor review backs up the welcoming service. Kitchen facilities, free parking and the hotel's advertised free guest laundry make it particularly practical for families and longer visits. The location suits Showgrounds events and trips around Cornwall Park.

The trade-off is motel simplicity rather than hotel polish, and this isn't a downtown sightseeing base. Room types differ: spa baths and full kitchens aren't universal. There's no lift, so request a ground-floor unit if stairs are difficult, and arrange late arrivals ahead of time. We'd skip it if you want full-service facilities or the waterfront on your doorstep.

• Best for: Families wanting self-catering space; Showgrounds event visitors; Drivers staying in Epsom

• Watch out for: No lift to upstairs rooms; Limited reception hours; Not a downtown sightseeing base

• Location: Handy for Cornwall Park and the Showgrounds, with nearby cafés and shops; outside the CBD.

• Rooms: Studios and apartments with kitchen facilities; select categories add spa baths or separate bedrooms.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com, Expedia and recent Tripadvisor feedback.

• Service: Guests repeatedly praise friendly, helpful hosts and straightforward check-in.

• Amenities: Free parking, unlimited Wi-Fi and guest laundry advertised; accessible ground-floor studio available.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast costs extra; Booking.com lists a refundable damage deposit, and late arrivals need advance coordination.
