#3 of 3 hotels in Parnell by Axel's take. Parnell is #6 of 10 places to stay in Auckland. The best hotels in Parnell, ranked · Where to stay in Auckland

Axel's take: 8.1/10

A strong city-fringe base with free parking, refreshed rooms and some service inconsistencies. a refurbished, practical 4-star on Auckland’s city fringe, scored for what it is.

Auckland Rose Park is a practical, refurbished 4-star opposite the Parnell Rose Gardens. It’s a strong pick if you want comfortable accommodation near central Auckland without downtown parking hassles. The hotel says all rooms and bathrooms have been refurbished, and Booking.com and Expedia guests give cleanliness and comfort strong marks. Free parking, a bus stop outside and walking access to Spark Arena make it particularly useful for drivers and concertgoers.

The trade-offs are noise and uneven service rather than tired rooms. Several guests mention voices outside rooms or coach-group comings and goings; restaurant service and reception responsiveness also draw mixed reports alongside plenty of staff praise. There’s an outdoor pool, but don’t expect resort-style facilities. We’d skip it for a pampering break or if being right in the downtown action matters most.

  • Best for: travelers with a car; Spark Arena concertgoers; families seeking practical comfort

  • Watch out for: corridor and coach-group noise; inconsistent reception and restaurant service; city-fringe rather than downtown location

  • Location: Opposite the rose gardens, with a bus stop outside and Spark Arena within walking distance.

  • Rooms: Refurbished, air-conditioned rooms; comfort scores well, though sound insulation gets mixed feedback.

  • Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com, Expedia and Trip.com, despite occasional housekeeping lapses.

  • Service: Mostly praised, but repeated reports flag slow dining service and uneven reception responsiveness.

  • Amenities: Outdoor pool, Garden View Restaurant, free Wi-Fi and conference facilities; practical rather than lavish.

  • Fees and surprises: On-site parking is free; check breakfast inclusion and note the 10 a.m. checkout.
