Axel's take: 8.6/10

A strong Boardwalk pick for concerts and casino weekends, less suited to quiet escapes. an upscale four-star casino resort on the Boardwalk, scored for what it is.

Hard Rock is an upscale four-star casino resort on the Boardwalk, and a strong pick if entertainment matters as much as the room. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise clean, spacious accommodation and helpful staff; restaurants, live music and beach access make it easy to spend a weekend here. The hotel says its North Tower room renovations and South Tower exterior restoration are now complete.

The trade-off is the casino atmosphere: smoking is permitted in designated areas, and some guests report smoke drifting beyond them. Expect lively public spaces rather than a quiet seaside retreat. The indoor pool is useful, but the sundeck is closed for the season. Factor in the nightly resort fee and paid parking. We'd choose it for a concert or an adults' getaway, but skip it if smoke sensitivity or peace and quiet drives the decision.

Best for: concertgoers; casino weekends; couples wanting dining and nightlife
Watch out for: casino smoke and lively public spaces; nightly resort fee and paid parking; pool sundeck closed for the season
Location: Direct Boardwalk and beach access, with Steel Pier opposite.
Rooms: Generally spacious and comfortable; North Tower renovations are complete.
Cleanliness: A consistent strength across recent guest feedback, despite occasional misses.
Service: Helpful staff receive repeated praise, particularly for check-in and resolving problems.
Amenities: Extensive dining, live entertainment, spa, gym and indoor pool; pool hours are limited.
Fees and surprises: Nightly resort fee, paid parking and a check-in security authorization; not a smoke-free property.
