Axel's take: 7.8/10

A practical Ann Arbor base with friendly staff, but aging facilities need attention. a no-frills, limited-service chain hotel off I-94, scored for what it is.

This no-frills, limited-service Hampton is a good pick for drivers who want the basics covered rather than a downtown address. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise helpful staff, clean rooms and comfortable beds. Free parking, WiFi and hot breakfast make it a practical base for university visits or an overnight stop, with Michigan Stadium and the main campus around two miles away.

The catch is the building’s age: dated bathrooms, worn furnishings and occasional maintenance problems recur in guest feedback. The indoor pool deserves particular caution: several 2026 guests report poor condition or temporary closures, although others enjoyed it; Hilton still advertises it, so confirm availability before booking. Breakfast generally satisfies, but selection and replenishment draw some complaints. We'd choose it for straightforward convenience, not a polished getaway, and skip it if swimming or walking downtown is central to the trip.

  • Best for: university visitors with a car; overnight road-trip stops; travelers wanting breakfast and parking included

  • Watch out for: aging rooms and bathrooms; pool condition and intermittent closures; not a downtown walking base

  • Location: Off I-94, around two miles from main campus and Michigan Stadium; best suited to drivers.

  • Rooms: Usually described as comfortable, but dated furnishings, compact layouts and maintenance issues recur.

  • Cleanliness: Generally a strength across sites, despite scattered housekeeping complaints.

  • Service: Friendly, accommodating staff are the most consistent positive in recent feedback.

  • Amenities: Free hot breakfast, WiFi, indoor pool and gym; pool upkeep and availability receive mixed reports.

  • Fees and surprises: Self-parking is free; pets incur a nonrefundable fee that increases for longer stays.
