Axel's take: 8.3/10

A comfortable neighborhood base for independent travelers, with stairs and roadworks to weigh. A design-led, self-service aparthotel in Amsterdam Oost, scored for what it is.

Bob W Oosterpark is a design-led, self-service aparthotel in a historic former courthouse, rather than a conventional budget hotel. It’s a strong pick for independent travelers who prefer neighborhood cafés to the busiest tourist streets. Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, comfortable beds and helpful communication. Studios and apartments offer private kitchens; other rooms use the shared kitchen.

The practical compromises matter. There’s no lift, entry is digital, and breakfast is an optional extra at a nearby café. Check your exact room layout rather than assuming every unit matches the photos. Linnaeusstraat–Middenweg road and tram-track works are underway, with the wider project scheduled through December 2027; check current routes before arriving. We’d skip it if stairs are difficult or you want a traditional, full-service hotel in the center.

• Best for: Independent couples; Longer stays with self-catering; Travelers seeking a local neighborhood

• Watch out for: No lift; narrow stairs; Digital entry and variable room layouts; Ongoing Linnaeusstraat–Middenweg roadworks

• Location: Cafés, shops and Oosterpark nearby; outside the main sightseeing core.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds draw praise; private kitchens depend on the category booked.

• Cleanliness: Generally praised across Booking.com and Expedia, with some exceptions.

• Service: Guests often describe online communication as quick and helpful.

• Amenities: Shared kitchen, partner-gym access and optional breakfast at Bagels & Beans.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast costs extra, no private parking, and nearby roadworks warrant checking access.
