#1 of 8 hotels in Oud-West by Axel's take. Oud-West is #5 of 12 places to stay in Amsterdam. The best hotels in Oud-West, ranked · Where to stay in Amsterdam

Axel's take: 8.6/10

A friendly, clean Amsterdam base, provided you can handle the stairs. a small, no-frills 2-star townhouse hotel in Oud-West, scored for what it is.

Alp is a small, no-frills 2-star in Oud-West, and a strong pick if you want personal service rather than extensive facilities. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise the helpful staff and cleanliness. Nearby trams and neighborhood cafés make it a practical sightseeing base, while free hot drinks, fruit and a garden terrace add welcome extras. Some rooms have balconies or private spa baths; choose the room category carefully.

The compromises are substantial but clear: rooms can be very compact, the stairs are steep and narrow, and there is no elevator or air-conditioning. Recent guests also describe noise from neighboring rooms; garden-facing rooms are the better bet for quieter surroundings. We'd skip it for mobility needs, heavy luggage or spacious-room expectations, but otherwise it's a very good simple city hotel.

  • Best for: couples traveling light; tram-based sightseeing; travelers who prefer neighborhood cafés

  • Watch out for: steep, narrow stairs and no elevator; compact rooms without air-conditioning; sound carries between rooms

  • Location: Oud-West near the Jordaan, with nearby tram stops and plenty of cafés; not beside Centraal.

  • Rooms: Compact private-bathroom rooms; balconies, terraces and spa baths depend on category.

  • Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com, Expedia and recent guest comments.

  • Service: Helpful, welcoming staff are the standout; the hotel confirms 24-hour reception and luggage assistance.

  • Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, hot drinks and fruit, plus a garden terrace; no restaurant.

  • Fees and surprises: Airport transfers, laundry and late checkout cost extra; no on-site parking, and breakfast inclusion depends on the booking.
