Main Street, also called Dronningens Gade, threads through former warehouses, shopping passages and courtyards, with Fort Christian and the 99 Steps nearby. The waterfront gives you a flatter walking route than the hillside streets. Stay here if exploring the capital matters as much as swimming.
The trade-off is a taxi ride whenever you want a proper beach day. Shopping streets lose much of their daytime bustle after closing, although waterfront lounges and Main Street events mean downtown is not uniformly asleep.
