7.2/10
Stay here for history on foot, not a beach holiday.
Historic character, doorstep sights and the strongest hotel score put it first, despite weak value, awkward driving and no convenient swimming beach.

Stay here if you want historic San Juan outside your door. Calle del Cristo, Calle Fortaleza and the plazas make colonial architecture, cafés and walks to the forts part of your daily routine. Evenings bring cocktail bars and music around Calle San Sebastián rather than a retreat into a resort.
The catch is practical: hills and cobbles complicate strollers and luggage, parking is a chore, and there's no convenient swimming beach inside the old town. Cruise arrivals can crowd streets and slow pickups. Skip it if daily beach time or easy car access matters more than atmosphere.
