#4 of 4 hotels in Olde Towne Portsmouth by Axel's take. Olde Towne Portsmouth is #2 of 6 places to stay in Norfolk. The best hotels in Olde Towne Portsmouth, ranked · Where to stay in Norfolk

Axel's take: 4.3/10

Free parking and pet-friendly policies cannot outweigh recurring cleanliness and maintenance problems. a basic 2-star motel in Portsmouth, not Norfolk, scored for what it is.

This basic 2-star Motel 6 is in Portsmouth, not Norfolk, with access to Olde Towne and naval facilities. Free parking, Wi-Fi and pet-friendly policies are practical advantages, and some guests praise helpful staff or comfortable beds. But we'd look elsewhere: Booking.com and Expedia's weak overall ratings suggest this falls short even of budget-motel expectations.

Recent Expedia reviews repeatedly describe dirty rooms, worn bedding, broken fittings and nighttime disturbances; Tripadvisor adds similar complaints. Several guests report feeling unsafe, though that is their experience rather than an independently verified assessment. The swimming pool has repeatedly been reported unusable, including in summer 2026, so don't rely on the photos. We'd skip it for families, light sleepers or anyone seeking dependable cleanliness, even for a short stop.

  • Best for: travelers needing pet-friendly lodging; drivers prioritizing free parking

  • Watch out for: Recurring cleanliness and maintenance complaints; Nighttime disturbances and guest safety concerns; Pool repeatedly reported unusable

  • Location: In Portsmouth near Olde Towne and naval facilities; not a Norfolk city-center property.

  • Rooms: Some comfortable-bed reports, but recent guests repeatedly describe worn bedding and broken fittings.

  • Cleanliness: A major weakness: repeated recent complaints about dirty floors, bathrooms and linens.

  • Service: Some staff earn praise, but room-readiness and reservation problems also appear.

  • Amenities: Free parking, Wi-Fi and coin laundry; no elevator, and pool availability should not be assumed.

  • Fees and surprises: Expedia lists a per-stay deposit and free pet stays; confirm current terms before booking.
