Axel's take: 8.1/10

A solid airport stop with helpful staff, though some rooms show their age. A practical, limited-service airport hotel, scored for what it is.

This is a practical, limited-service airport hotel, and a strong pick for a short stay before or after flying. Hilton puts Norfolk International Airport two miles away and includes a roundtrip shuttle, hot breakfast, parking and Wi-Fi. Recent guests across several sites repeatedly praise the welcoming front desk, comfortable rooms and breakfast staff. The indoor pool is a useful extra for families, rather than a reason to book by itself.

The main compromise is uneven upkeep. Alongside plenty of clean-room reports, recent Google and Tripadvisor guests describe aging bathrooms, maintenance issues and housekeeping that sometimes needs chasing. Those complaints don't dominate the overall ratings, but they keep this from being an effortless recommendation. We'd choose it for airport convenience and included basics, not fresh interiors or a walkable downtown stay.

• Best for: Travelers flying through Norfolk; Families on short stays; Drivers wanting included parking

• Watch out for: Some aging bathrooms and maintenance issues; Housekeeping may need follow-up; Not a downtown or beachfront location

• Location: Two miles from the airport near I-64; better for airport access than downtown sightseeing on foot.

• Rooms: Generally comfortable and spacious, but some guests report tired bathrooms and faulty fixtures.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall cleanliness ratings, with some recent complaints about housekeeping follow-through.

• Service: Front-desk and shuttle staff earn repeated praise; problem handling is less consistent.

• Amenities: Free hot breakfast and Wi-Fi, an indoor pool, a fitness center and an airport shuttle.

• Fees and surprises: Self-parking is free; pets incur a fee, and travelers should confirm shuttle hours for their flight.
