Stay here when your Boston plans start with the Freedom Trail, Faneuil Hall and the harbor. Around State Street and the wharves, historic buildings meet office towers, while the Greenway helps connect the waterfront with the North End. The Aquarium and Long Wharf make this an especially useful choice for families planning harbor activities.
The important distinction is between waterfront atmosphere and office-district atmosphere: they are not interchangeable. We would favor the wharves for an evening stroll and the streets nearer transit interchanges for maximum convenience. Choose Back Bay instead if browsing, café stops and a more consistent neighborhood feel matter more than harbor access.
