Axel's take: 8.5/10

A strong beach-first choice, but the Holiday Inn name is now outdated. a 4-star beachfront hotel in La Boquilla, now an AC Hotel by Marriott, scored for what it is.

This 4-star beachfront hotel is a strong pick for travelers who prefer beach time to staying inside Cartagena’s historic center. Formerly Holiday Inn Cartagena Morros, it began operating as AC Hotel by Marriott Cartagena on October 1, 2026, following a brand conversion. Its established guest record is reassuring: Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise cleanliness, helpful staff, comfortable rooms and breakfast. Direct beach access is the main attraction.

The trade-offs are practical: sightseeing means arranging transport, and several guests describe the pool as small. We'd skip it for a big-resort pool scene or evenings spent walking straight into Old Town. Most available feedback predates the Marriott switch, so the hotel's good track record is clearer than its performance under the new brand. Confirm breakfast inclusions and current policies before booking.

• Best for: couples prioritizing beach time; families wanting a quieter base; travelers staying near the airport

• Watch out for: Rebranded as AC Hotel in October 2026; Small pool in guest reviews; Transport needed for the historic center

• Location: Direct access to La Boquilla beach; convenient for the airport, but not an Old Town walking base.

• Rooms: Comfort and space earn praise; Marriott now lists 140 rooms and suites, many with balconies.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com ratings and recent Expedia feedback.

• Service: Helpful staff receive repeated praise; launch coverage says existing employees were retained.

• Amenities: Beach access, outdoor pool, restaurant, gym and spa; pre-conversion guests flag the pool's limited size.

• Fees and surprises: The property is no longer a Holiday Inn; verify breakfast and policies, and note Marriott currently lists no airport shuttle.
