A practical Bocagrande base with a rooftop pool, rather than a luxury escape. a straightforward mid-range chain hotel in Bocagrande, not a luxury resort, scored for what it is.

Hampton by Hilton Cartagena is a straightforward mid-range chain hotel, whatever the star listings suggest. It’s a strong pick for a comfortable base near Bocagrande’s beach, shops and restaurants, with breakfast included and a small rooftop pool. Booking.com and Expedia guests generally praise cleanliness, comfortable beds and helpful staff. We’d choose it for practicality rather than resort-style pampering.

The compromises are basic rooms, limited clothes storage and breakfast variety that divides guests. Recent Tripadvisor reviews also flag machinery noise and uneven front-desk handling, although those complaints don’t dominate the overall ratings. Guests reported hotel renovations in late 2025; their current status is unconfirmed, so check before booking. The walled city is roughly a ten-minute drive away. We’d skip it for an atmospheric old-town stay or a spacious pool-focused holiday.

• Best for: value-minded couples; beach-and-city sightseeing; travelers wanting familiar chain comforts

• Watch out for: breakfast variety gets mixed reviews; some reports of machinery noise; confirm status of previously reported renovations

• Location: Walkable Bocagrande beach-and-restaurant location; the walled city requires a drive.

• Rooms: Simple and generally comfortable, with limited storage and occasional machinery-noise complaints.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall cleanliness ratings outweigh a few recent housekeeping complaints.

• Service: Helpful staff receive frequent praise, but some Tripadvisor guests describe difficult check-ins.

• Amenities: Small rooftop outdoor pool, gym, free breakfast and Wi-Fi; Hilton also lists Sky Lounge dining.

• Fees and surprises: Hilton confirms no parking; airport transfers cost extra, and tax inclusions should be checked.
