Axel's take: 6.2/10

Beach proximity and a pool, but inconsistent upkeep makes this a cautious pick. a basic budget hotel near La Boquilla beach, scored for what it is.

Hotel Playa Norte is a basic budget hotel in La Boquilla, not a beachfront resort or a convenient Old Town base. Its strongest draw is simple: the beach is a short walk away, and there’s a pool, restaurant and free parking. Booking.com guests are generally more positive than Expedia guests, with staff and value earning worthwhile praise. It could suit travelers who prioritize beach access over sightseeing convenience.

The reservation is consistency. Recent feedback includes clean, pleasant stays, but also recurring complaints about noise, uncomfortable mattresses and uneven maintenance. Pest reports on Expedia and Tripadvisor in 2025–26 are a more serious concern, even alongside positive cleanliness ratings elsewhere. There’s no elevator, either. We’d skip it for a quiet romantic break, mobility-dependent stay or anyone unwilling to gamble on housekeeping.

• Best for: budget-minded beachgoers; groups sharing basic rooms

• Watch out for: recurring pest and upkeep complaints; noise and inconsistent mattress comfort; no elevator; away from the historic center

• Location: A short walk from La Boquilla beach; the hotel places the historic center about 7 km away.

• Rooms: Basic air-conditioned doubles and bunk-bed family rooms; recent guests flag mattresses and soundproofing.

• Cleanliness: Booking.com scores are reassuring, but 2025–26 pest reports elsewhere warrant caution.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff receive repeated praise, though problem handling gets mixed feedback.

• Amenities: Outdoor pool, restaurant, free Wi-Fi, free parking and 24-hour reception; no elevator.

• Fees and surprises: Confirm breakfast inclusion and cancellation terms; some direct-booking plans require a deposit and are nonrefundable.
