Book easyJet for fixed dates, not flexibility or ordinary price protection
Axel considers easyJet a conditional budget choice, suitable when the total stays low after bags and seats and your dates are firm. Ordinary bookings provide no refund when fares fall, changes carry substantial fees, and punctuality is weak. Published disruption support is a strength, but it does not make the cheapest ticket flexible.
- Best
- Standard includes an underseat bag weighing up to 15kg.
- easyJet targets processing cancellation refunds within seven days.
- Comparable alternative transport can be reimbursed if easyJet cannot carry a cancelled passenger within 24 hours.
- Worst
- Ordinary bookings return neither cash nor credit when the replacement fare is cheaper.
- Standard changes cost £30 online even more than 60 days before departure, plus any higher fare difference.
- Only 69.62% of flights arrived on time in September 2026, according to OAG.
If the fare drops after you book, can you get money back?
RarelyRepriceability 2.7/10
Rarely. Ordinary Standard, Extra, Smart+ and Inclusive bookings return no lower fare difference. Online changes cost £30 per passenger, per flight more than 60 days before departure, or £49 within 60 days, plus any higher fare difference. Inclusive Plus offers limited fee-free changes, not lower fare refunds. easyJet Plus advertises vouchers for same-flight price drops. Flight Club offers vouchers for identical flights, with phone claims while the cheaper fare remains available. Its detailed conditions should not be assumed to cover Plus.
Vouchers normally last 12 months minus one day, or 12 months for Flight Club. Book before expiry, travel can follow. Online vouchers require the original account holder. Contact-centre vouchers allow another user with permission and credentials. Cancelling within 24 hours costs £49 online or £55 through Customer Services per booking, with the balance refunded. Cancellation is unavailable less than two hours before the first flight. Axel recorded fewer than 10 repricing attempts, but no observation period or savings results were supplied.

- Fare difference on a cheaper change
- Lost. An ordinary change to a cheaper flight returns neither cash nor credit; the applicable change fee remains payable. Extra's bag-and-seat bundle does not improve these rights. Flex Pass waives one change fee per flight but does not refund a lower fare difference. Inclusive Plus likewise provides no refund for a cheaper permitted route change. Membership Price Promise claims are a separate benefit.
- Same flight, lower price
- This classification describes an ordinary nonmember booking, not membership benefits. easyJet's flight-change page says a lower new fare is not refunded and the relevant change fees still apply. There is a membership-only exception: the easyJet Plus page advertises a voucher when the same flight becomes cheaper on the airline's website or app. Flight Club's own terms, labelled Version 1.4, explicitly provide the difference as a credit voucher for the identical date, route and flight number. Flight Club claims must be made by phone while the lower fare remains available; extras, later promotional sales, and bookings already changed by flight or passenger name are excluded. The passenger must travel. Benefits extend to accompanying passengers on the member's booking, but not Flight Club for business partners. New Flight Club invitations are paused. These airline pages were checked on October 26, 2026, but publish no policy update date; the Flight Club version number is not a dated revision. The Plus page confirms the benefit, but its detailed claim conditions were not exposed, so Flight Club's conditions should not automatically be applied to Plus.
- Credits (easyJet flight voucher)
- Normally valid for 12 months minus one day from issue unless easyJet specifies otherwise. Book before expiry; travel may take place afterward. Flight Club terms specify 12 months from issue unless otherwise advised. Transferable: partial.
- 24-hour rule
- The 24-hour cancellation window is not free: cancelling the whole booking costs £49 online or £55 through Customer Services, per booking. The remaining fare and eligible directly purchased extras are refunded. Unused Flex Pass is refundable; used Flex Pass is not. Cancellation is unavailable less than two hours before the first flight, even within 24 hours of booking.
- Same-day change
- The conditions permit an earlier return flight on the same day for an Earlier Return Flight Fee, without an additional fare difference, subject to availability. A return booking is required and its outbound must already have been flown; the route must match, allowing specified airport groupings. The help page directs ordinary earlier-flight requests to Ground Crew at bag drop. The current fee amount was not confirmed. easyJet Plus includes an earlier return flight without that charge. Inclusive Plus separately allows qualifying date/time changes within its one-day-either-side window.
- Schedule changes
- The conditions promise notification of cancellations or significant schedule changes but publish no universal numerical refund threshold for advance timetable changes. For cancellations, easyJet offers free rebooking, a full-value voucher or a refund to the original payment account, normally processed within seven days. Its disruption page separately permits a full refund or a later flight when a departure delay exceeds five hours; this is not an advance schedule-change threshold. For EU261-covered flights, the Court of Justice has ruled that bringing departure forward by more than one hour constitutes cancellation.

Refunds and disruptions
EU261, UK261, Switzerland's EC261-based framework and Turkey's SHY rules apply depending on route and operating company. easyJet publishes meals, overnight hotels and necessary transfers. If it cannot carry a cancelled passenger within 24 hours, it allows comparable alternative transport and reimbursement of reasonable costs. Cancellation choices include free rebooking, an optional voucher or a refund to the original payment account, normally processed within seven days. A delay of at least five hours permits abandonment and reimbursement.
Recent evidence does not establish routine ticket-refund delays or compulsory vouchers. On November 4, 2024, France's DGAC and ministry responsible for transport imposed $85,051 for refund violations in 13 COVID-era cancellation cases and a separate $42,526 for incomplete rights information. No separate cash-compensation guarantee beyond applicable law was located.
Regulator actions since October 2021
- November 2024, France DGAC / Ministry responsible for transport: Decision 109 imposed €78,000 for refund violations involving 13 COVID-era cancellation cases, including the seven-day deadline and the requirement for passenger agreement before using travel vouchers. Converted at the November 4, 2024 ECB reference rate of $1.0904 per euro. Source
- November 2024, France DGAC / Ministry responsible for transport: The same Decision 109 separately imposed €39,000 for failure to inform passengers fully of their rights in 13 COVID-era cancellation cases. Converted at the November 4, 2024 ECB reference rate of $1.0904 per euro; this is separate from the €78,000 refund penalty. Source
- May 2024, Spain Ministry of Social Rights, Consumer Affairs and Agenda 2030: Spain imposed a €29,094,441 fine concerning cabin-baggage charges, adjacent seating for accompanying dependent passengers, pricing practices and refusal of cash payments; the ministry subsequently rejected easyJet's administrative appeal, announced November 22, 2024. USD conversion uses the May 10, 2024 ECB reference rate of $1.0779 per euro; easyJet's May 2026 accounts still described a judicial appeal, not a final court resolution. Source
Reliability
OAG's September 2026 On-Time Performance rankings report 69.62% on time and 1.87% cancelled for easyJet. The table does not explicitly identify a consolidated group figure. Punctuality is a weakness, with cancellations less concerning than late arrivals.
For calendar year 2024, Cirium reported 68.43% on time. The research calculated a 1.02% cancellation rate from 5,783 cancellations among 569,574 flights. These annual figures are not 2026 results.
Fees
Standard includes an underseat bag, but no overhead or checked bag. Online bag and seat prices depend on the booking. An unpurchased overhead bag costs £60 at the gate, and an unpurchased checked bag up to 23kg costs £60 at bag drop. Seat assignment at check-in is free, choosing costs extra. Children under 12 are seated close to an adult on the same booking.
Displayed fares include government taxes, but optional extras raise the total. Mandatory checkout additions were not confirmed. On May 10, 2024, Spain's Ministry of Social Rights, Consumer Affairs and Agenda 2030 imposed a €29,094,441 fine concerning baggage, dependent seating, pricing and cash payments. easyJet's May 2026 accounts still described a judicial appeal.
Complaints
A complaint rate per 100,000 passengers could not be measured because easyJet had too few US passengers for that measure. This is missing coverage, not evidence of few complaints. U.S. DOT data for April, May, July and August 2026 do not report easyJet's mishandled bags or wheelchairs and scooters. Bumping figures are also not reported in the April to June 2026 DOT data.
Loyalty program
easyJet Plus is a paid benefits subscription, not a redeemable-miles scheme. Membership lasts 12 months and automatically renews unless cancelled under its terms. Flight Club is invitation-only, reviewed annually, and new invitations are paused. Its flight vouchers normally expire after 12 months. Mileage expiry is not applicable. Award pricing and cuts in the last 24 months were not confirmed.
Choose easyJet if
- Travel with only the included underseat bag.
- Keep your dates fixed and compare the total after extras.
- You value published disruption assistance over fare flexibility.
Book elsewhere if
- You expect cash or credit whenever the fare falls.
- You want bags, seat choice and flexibility included in the cheapest fare.
- You need consistently strong punctuality.
Tips
- Compare Extra with Standard plus a 23kg checked bag and a standard seat.
- Buy required baggage before the airport to avoid the £60 gate or bag drop charge.
- Check in no later than seven days before departure when travelling with children under 12.
Questions travelers ask
Does easyJet charge change fees?
Yes, for Standard, Extra, Smart+ and Inclusive. More than 60 days before departure, changes cost £30 online or £35 through Customer Services per passenger, per flight. Within 60 days, the fees are £49 and £54 respectively, plus any higher fare difference. Online changes must be completed at least two hours before departure. The trade-only Inclusive Plus waives fees and fare differences for qualifying date/time changes within one day either side of the original date.
Can I get money back if the fare drops after booking?
Not on an ordinary booking. A cheaper fare returns neither cash nor credit, and changing flights still attracts the applicable fee. easyJet Plus advertises a same-flight price-drop voucher. Flight Club also offers vouchers for the identical date, route and flight number, with claims made by phone while the lower fare remains available. Flight Club excludes later promotional sales, extras and bookings already changed by flight or passenger name. Plus's detailed claim conditions were not confirmed.
How long do easyJet credits last?
Usually 12 months minus one day from issue, unless easyJet specifies otherwise. Flight Club terms normally allow 12 months. You must book before expiry, but travel can take place later. Online vouchers require the original account holder. A contact-centre-issued voucher can be used by someone else with the owner's permission, code and password. The booking currency must match the voucher, and unused value remains available until expiry.
What do I get if easyJet cancels my flight?
You can choose free rebooking, a full-value voucher or a refund to the original payment account. easyJet normally processes refunds within seven days, although bank processing can take longer. Depending on the disruption and applicable law, meals, overnight hotels and necessary transfers are available. If easyJet cannot get you to your destination within 24 hours, it permits comparable travel on another airline, train, bus or rental car and reimbursement of reasonable costs.
How much do carry-on and checked bags cost?
Standard includes an underseat bag up to 45 x 36 x 20cm and 15kg. An overhead bag up to 56 x 45 x 25cm costs extra, with booking-specific online prices and a £60 gate charge. Standard includes no checked bag. An unpurchased checked bag up to 23kg costs £60 at bag drop. Extra, Inclusive and Inclusive Plus include a 23kg checked bag, while Smart+ includes the larger cabin bag but no checked bag.

Key facts
- Fare difference on a cheaper change: Lost.
- Same flight, lower price: This classification describes an ordinary nonmember booking, not membership benefits. easyJet's flight-change page says a lower new fare is not refunded and the relevant change fees still apply.
- Credits (easyJet flight voucher): Normally valid for 12 months minus one day from issue unless easyJet specifies otherwise. Book before expiry; travel may take place afterward. Flight Club terms specify 12 months from issue unless otherwise advised. Transferable: partial.
- 24-hour rule: The 24-hour cancellation window is not free: cancelling the whole booking costs £49 online or £55 through Customer Services, per booking. The remaining fare and eligible directly purchased extras are refunded. Unused Flex Pass is refundable; used Flex Pass is not. Cancellation is unavailable less than two hours before the first flight, even within 24 hours of booking.
- Same-day change: The conditions permit an earlier return flight on the same day for an Earlier Return Flight Fee, without an additional fare difference, subject to availability.
- Schedule changes: The conditions promise notification of cancellations or significant schedule changes but publish no universal numerical refund threshold for advance timetable changes.

Repriceability: 2.7/10
- Standard fare change fee: 4.0/10 (Extra: The Standard change-fee schedule applies, plus any higher fare difference.)
- Lowest fare flexibility: 4.0/10 (Standard: Per passenger, per flight: more than 60 days before departure, £30 online or £35 through Customer Services; 60 days or less, £49 online or £54 through Customer Services. Any higher fare difference is additional. Online changes must be completed at least two hours before departure.)
- Lower fare on the same flight: 0.0/10 (This classification describes an ordinary nonmember booking, not membership benefits. easyJet's flight-change page says a lower new fare is not refunded and the relevant change fees still apply. The Plus page confirms the benefit, but its detailed claim conditions were not exposed, so Flight Club's conditions should not automatically be applied to Plus.)
- Credit terms: 4.0/10 (Normally valid for 12 months minus one day from issue unless easyJet specifies otherwise. Book before expiry; travel may take place afterward. Flight Club terms specify 12 months from issue unless otherwise advised.; transferable: partial)
- Cancel the standard fare: 0.0/10 (Non-refundable after 24 hours; the general paid 24-hour cancellation provision and applicable exceptions remain available.)
- Risk-free window: 4.0/10 (The 24-hour cancellation window is not free: cancelling the whole booking costs £49 online or £55 through Customer Services, per booking. The remaining fare and eligible directly purchased extras are refunded. Unused Flex Pass is refundable; used Flex Pass is not. Cancellation is unavailable less than two hours before the first flight, even within 24 hours of booking.)
- Same-day change: 7.0/10 (The conditions permit an earlier return flight on the same day for an Earlier Return Flight Fee, without an additional fare difference, subject to availability. A return booking is required and its outbound must already have been flown; the route must match, allowing specified airport groupings. The help page directs ordinary earlier-flight requests to Ground Crew at bag drop. The current fee amount was not confirmed. easyJet Plus includes an earlier return flight without that charge. Inclusive Plus separately allows qualifying date/time changes within its one-day-either-side window.)

- Commitments when the airline causes the problem: 9.0/10 (Covered by: EU261, UK261, Turkey_SHY, Other_national; Coverage depends on the route and operating company: EU261 and UK261 are central, Switzerland applies an EC261-based framework, and Turkey's SHY rules cover eligible departures from Turkey. easyJet publishes meal, overnight-hotel and necessary-transfer assistance. If it cannot get a cancelled passenger to the destination within 24 hours on easyJet, it permits comparable travel on another airline, train, bus or rental car and reimbursement of reasonable costs. These largely implement legal duties, rather than provide additional benefits. No separate cash-compensation guarantee beyond applicable law was located. EU revisions approved in July 2026 were not yet effective on the assessment date.)

- Carry-on in the lowest fare: 0.0/10 (One underseat bag up to 45 x 36 x 20cm and 15kg is free. An overhead bag up to 56 x 45 x 25cm costs extra. The current replacement fee page gives booking-specific online prices, not a published minimum, and £60 at the boarding gate, matching the cabin-bag help page. The older query-string tariff's £5.99 minimum and £48 gate fee are not used as current prices.)
- First checked bag: no data, median 6.0/10 used (No checked bag is included in Standard. The current replacement fee page gives booking-specific online prices rather than fixed minima and charges £60 at bag drop for an unpurchased bag up to 23kg; the hold-luggage help page confirms £60. This replaces reliance on the older query-string tariff's £6.99/£9.49 online minima and £40 bag-drop charge. A current USD minimum was not verified. Extra, Inclusive and Inclusive Plus include one 23kg bag.)
- Seat in the lowest fare: 3.0/10 (fee)
- Children seated with a parent: 5.0/10 (Standard charges for choosing a seat; otherwise a seat is assigned free at check-in. The current fee page gives booking-specific seat prices rather than the older £0.99 minimum. The children help page says each child under 12 will be seated close to an adult on the same booking, potentially arranged at the airport or onboard, and recommends checking in no later than seven days before departure. The October 2, 2026 announcement says cabin crew will seat families together if necessary, but describes extending the protected age to 14 and under as a proposal to be followed once effective. A universal adjacent-seat guarantee for every child aged 13 or under was not confirmed.)

How Axel rates airlines
Scores follow Axel's published rubric: six pillars, each scored 0 to 10 by fixed checks, with repriceability weighted 35%. Facts were checked October 26, 2026. No data at all for Complaints and handling and Loyalty fairness, so they take the median of all rated airlines. No data for 2 checks (Refund complaints, First checked bag), each scored at the median of all rated airlines. Full rubric: https://helloaxel.com/en/airlines/how-axel-rates-airlines
