Embassy Suites on the Embarcadero offers the most space here, including a separate living room. Pacific Terrace in Pacific Beach suits beach-first trips. Old Town Inn in Old Town is the practical transit pick; InterContinental on the Embarcadero works well for waterfront sightseeing without a car.

Questions families ask
Should we book two queens or two doubles?
Two queens give each pair more sleeping width. Most rooms here have two queens, but Omni’s Deluxe room has two doubles. Some descriptions conflict: Embassy Suites and TownePlace Suites have both queen and double-bed descriptions. Book the named room with its bed size confirmed, rather than relying on a generic “quadruple” description.
Can we add a crib or rollaway to a room for four?
Do not assume an extra bed fits just because the hotel offers them. Kings Inn prohibits rollaways in its Traditional Double Queen rooms, while InterContinental and Comfort Inn require room-specific confirmation. Crib policies also vary: InterContinental lists free cribs on request, while Legacy lists them as unavailable. Confirm availability and permitted occupancy before booking.
Does a room for four cost much more than a room for two?
Not necessarily. Kings Inn and Legacy Resort show no room-rate increase over their cheapest room for two on the same night. InterContinental and Courtyard show only a small increase. Comparable two-person rates are unavailable for several others. Parking, breakfast and mandatory daily charges can still change which hotel offers the better overall value.
Which San Diego neighborhoods work best for families sharing one room?
Mission Valley suits sightseeing by car and offers budget rooms plus Legacy’s generous floor space. Old Town Inn combines transit access with included breakfast and parking. The Embarcadero suits waterfront sightseeing on foot; Gaslamp works for Petco Park but can be noisy. Pacific Beach and Coronado favor beach trips, while La Jolla offers walkable village dining.
Which room gives us the most space without booking two rooms?
Embassy Suites offers 531 square feet with a separate bedroom and living room within one suite; four can use the two beds without opening the sofa bed. For a conventional shared bedroom, Pacific Terrace has 410 square feet, Legacy has 408 and Courtyard has 400. Shore House’s two-queen guestroom is not one of its larger villas.
