Navigli
canal-side aperitivo · old courtyards · independent boutiques · weekend crowds
9.4/10
The canal banks concentrate aperitivo, bars and weekend crowds; stay here when late evenings are part of the plan.

Navigli works best when the evening is part of the itinerary. The Darsena, Naviglio Grande and Naviglio Pavese offer waterside walks, aperitivo and an appealing contrast to monumental central Milan. Corso di Porta Ticinese extends the experience toward independent shopping and the Colonne di San Lorenzo; Tortona and MUDEC provide another nearby direction to explore.
- Best for

- Skip it if
- You are a light sleeper; You want the simplest monument-focused base
- Getting around
- M2 Porta Genova, with M4 De Amicis/Vetra useful toward the northern end; walk along Ticinese toward the centre. LIN: direct M4 from those northern stops, otherwise change at Sant'Ambrogio; MXP: Cadorna–M2; BGY: Centrale–M2.
- After dark
- Canal banks fill for aperitivo and remain noisy on busy evenings, especially weekends; waterfront tranquility is not the selling point.
- Where to look
- Darsena and Piazza XXIV Maggio. Choose this meeting point of canals and Ticinese for waterside walks and sociable evenings, not an early-night retreat.Porta Genova–Via Tortona. Stay toward the station and former industrial streets for metro access, design spaces and restaurants beyond the canal banks.Corso Genova. Choose the inland approach for walking between the historic center and canal evenings rather than staying directly beside the water.
