#2 of 9 hotels in Porta Nuova & Isola by Axel's take. Porta Nuova & Isola is #6 of 11 places to stay in Milan. The best hotels in Porta Nuova & Isola, ranked · Where to stay in Milan

Axel's take: 8.7/10

A stylish Milan base with strong comfort, but a few practical compromises. An upscale, design-led 4-star in Porta Nuova, scored for what it is.

Milano Verticale is an upscale, design-led 4-star in Porta Nuova, and a strong pick for Milan beyond the Duomo. Corso Como’s restaurants and shops are close, with Garibaldi’s trains and metro handy for exploring. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise cleanliness, comfortable beds and modern rooms; recent reviews also give the staff plenty of credit. The garden bar and two restaurants make it more than somewhere to sleep.

The compromises are worth knowing. Several Tripadvisor guests mention street or tram noise, although others find the soundproofing effective, and some rooms feel compact. Breakfast and service draw more mixed feedback than the rooms. Spa access costs extra and requires booking; the gym also requires a reservation. We’d choose it for a stylish city break, but skip it if guaranteed quiet or unrestricted wellness facilities are priorities.

  • Best for: Design-minded city breakers; Shopping and dining around Corso Como; Travelers using Garibaldi station

  • Watch out for: Street and tram noise in some rooms; Some room categories feel compact; Spa surcharge and advance reservations

  • Location: Well placed for Porta Nuova, Corso Como and Garibaldi transport; not directly beside the Duomo.

  • Rooms: Modern, comfortable and well kept overall; space and noise exposure vary by category.

  • Cleanliness: A clear strength across Booking.com, Expedia and recent positive Tripadvisor reviews.

  • Service: Usually praised as friendly and helpful, with some less consistent reception and dining experiences.

  • Amenities: Garden bar, two restaurants, gym and Armonia spa; gym and spa access require reservations.

  • Fees and surprises: Spa and nearby parking cost extra; check whether breakfast is included in your booking.
