Shijo-Karasuma mixes offices, department stores and restaurants with smaller streets that are easier to retreat into than the main shopping road. Nishiki Market is walkable, and the Karasuma subway gives you a straightforward link to Kyoto Station. Hankyu adds useful east-west travel and access toward Osaka. This is our easiest recommendation when different travelers want different things.
