#3 of 9 hotels in Kyoto Station by Axel's take. Kyoto Station is #4 of 7 places to stay in Kyoto. The best hotels in Kyoto Station, ranked · Where to stay in Kyoto

Axel's take: 8.5/10

A strong station-side base, with public baths and compact rooms. a practical 3-star beside Kyoto Station with public baths, scored for what it is.

Elcient is a practical 3-star two minutes from Kyoto Station’s Hachijo East exit, and a strong pick for travelers prioritizing easy transport over sprawling rooms. Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise cleanliness, helpful staff and the large public baths. The hotel says its full renovation debuted on October 1, 2026, refreshing rooms and public spaces; early October feedback remains largely positive.

Room choice matters: singles start at 12 square meters and doubles at 14, so couples with large suitcases should consider a twin. Breakfast earns praise, though some guests report crowding. The baths are included, but the hotel prohibits tattooed guests from using them. We'd skip it if generous space or a traditional Kyoto atmosphere is the priority; for a clean, convenient sightseeing base, it delivers.

  • Best for: rail travelers and day-trippers; solo sightseers; travelers who enjoy public baths

  • Watch out for: compact single and double rooms; tattooed guests cannot use public baths; occasional breakfast crowding

  • Location: Two minutes from Kyoto Station’s Hachijo East exit; especially convenient for rail connections.

  • Rooms: Renovated in 2026; 12-square-meter singles and 14-square-meter doubles make upgrading worth considering.

  • Cleanliness: Consistent praise across recent reviews; Expedia’s cleanliness rating is particularly strong.

  • Service: Guests generally describe helpful staff; automated check-in and luggage storage add convenience.

  • Amenities: Included public baths and sauna, a restaurant, free Wi-Fi and coin laundry.

  • Fees and surprises: Breakfast and parking cost extra; bookings made from September 1, 2026 incur accommodation tax payable onsite. Scheduled power outages: January 7–8, 2027, 11am–3pm.
