7.4/10
The best first-visit base, especially for food, galleries and nights out.
The strongest character and hotel scores, plus useful central access, outweigh the weakest value score and a doorstep offering that varies by block.

Stay here for Kansas City without organizing every outing around a car. Around Baltimore Avenue and 18th Street, Crossroads warehouses hold galleries, restaurants, breweries and jazz rooms; farther north, Power & Light supplies the bigger party scene. The convention center and Kauffman Center also make this a practical business-and-culture combination.
Choose your street carefully: a room beside the entertainment blocks is a different proposition from one farther into the office district. First Fridays and major events bring crowds and noise. The streetcar makes exploring the central corridor straightforward, but stadium trips and attractions beyond it still require separate transport planning.
- Best for

- Skip it if
- You want consistently quiet evenings; Most plans are in the outer suburbs
- Getting around
- Walk between downtown and Crossroads sights; the free KC Streetcar follows Main Street. From MCI, take the roughly hourly 229 downtown, then walk or transfer to the streetcar, or use a taxi/rideshare.
- After dark
- Power & Light brings club crowds; Crossroads offers jazz, taprooms and cocktails, with especially busy streets on First Fridays.
