Ala Moana Center anchors shopping days; Ward Village is a separate outing rather than an extension of the mall.

Ala Moana works as a practical city base: the shopping center, beach park and bus connections replace Waikīkī's beachfront promenade. Kakaʻako adds a different outing, with Ward Village dining and the murals, cafés and bars around SALT. These are neighboring districts, not one continuous pedestrian strip; staying by the mall does not put every Kakaʻako restaurant on your doorstep.
- Best for
- food loversbusiness trips and conventionsmuseums and cultureshopping
- Skip it if
- You want Waikīkī's beach promenade outside; You expect every Kakaʻako attraction to be a short walk
- Getting around
- Ala Moana Center is a major bus interchange; 42, E and W use Ala Moana Boulevard, including the direct HNL W Line; walk to the mall and beach, then bus or taxi farther into Kakaʻako.
- After dark
- Plan evenings around Ward Village or SALT rather than expecting one continuous late-night strip.
