Kālia Road and the Ala Wai Boat Harbor side of Waikīkī feel more resort-oriented than the streets around Kūhiō Beach. Kahanamoku Beach and Duke Kahanamoku Lagoon make beach-and-water days straightforward, while Ala Moana offers another direction for shopping. Families can spend much of a day here without moving very far.
- Best for
- familiesbusiness trips and conventions
- Skip it if
- You want the main dining strip immediately outside; You dislike large resort environments
- Getting around
- The beach and Ala Moana are walkable; buses 42, E and W use Ala Moana Boulevard, with the W Line providing the HNL connection before a final walk.
- After dark
- Expect resort dinners rather than a continuous nightlife strip; Friday fireworks add a concentrated crowd and a short burst of noise.
